UNIT 1 VOCABULARY REFERENCE

feel at home: to feel comfortable and relaxed
feel homesick miss: unhappy because of being away from home
settle into: Someone who settles down accepts responsibilities and lives a calmer life

career: a job for which you are trained and in which it is possible to advance during your working life, so that you get greater responsibility and earn more money
degree: the level of achievement recognized for a student who has completed a course of study at a college or university

ceremony: a set of acts, often traditional or religious, performed at a formal occasion esp. to recognize an important event, or the performing of such acts
hunt: to chase or search for a wild animal or bird with the intention of killing or catching it for food, sport, or profit
status: position or rank, esp. in a social group or legal system
tattoo: a permanent picture, pattern, or word on the surface of skin, created by using needles to put colors under the skin
tribe: a group of people, often of related families, who live in the same area and share the same language, culture, and history
warrior: a person who has experience and skill in fighting, esp. as a soldier

achievement: something that a person, company, etc. has done or finished successfully
arrival: the act of someone or something that reaches a place or comes into existence, or a person or thing that reaches a place
protection: the condition or state of being kept safe from injury, damage, or loss
survival: the state of continuing to live or to exist, esp. after a dangerous event
